Moving to Transformational Inclusivity and Board Diversity

This paper explores the dynamics of diversity and inclusivity in the context of boards of directors in the non-profit sector. Starting with a review of the current state of diversity research the paper considers functional and social approaches to inclusion within boards, and then moves to address the potential for transformational inclusivity. Using a grounded theory approach the paper presents a conceptual framework for examining approaches to creating diverse boards and ways of overcoming the tendency to limit the potential for profound and meaningful change in governance practices.
